Hollywood superstar Christian Bale was heavily linked to starring in the new Michael Mann movie about the life and times of Enzo Ferrari, with the actor once again having to mess around with his weight for the role. However, Christian has now admitted that his past with having to lose and gain extreme amounts of weight, along with the inevitable ageing process, forced him to turn down the lead role in the project.
Bale spoke to The Associated Press about the change of heart, telling them, "I'm just getting older. I could lose and gain so much weight before and didn't feel any different. I just felt invincible. I've had a series of accidents - motorcycle accidents, concussions. I've got so much metal in my body holding me together."
He also went on to admit that he hopes to get to work with Michael Mann on a different project in the future, "It's a great shame because Michael is a very good friend and it was a very special thing, but I just had too many red flags. And I'm a dad. I'm not f**king around with that. So I just said I've got to surrender on this one."
In the past, we have seen Christian Bale losing an extreme amount of weight for his role in the movie The Machinist, before then having to bulk up for his role of Batman. As well as that, we have also seen him lose a huge amount of weight for The Fighter, while gaining a lot of weight for American Hustle. It is a shame we will not get to see the 42-year-old star in this project, but it is good to see that he is putting his health first.
