There has been so much talk surrounding the women's game of tennis in recent weeks, with Serena Williams making the headlines for announcing her first pregnancy, before talk soon turned back to the actual game itself, with the upcoming return of former tennis superstar Maria Sharapova, who is now returning to the sport following her ban for doping.
Maria Sharapova is a former world number one and two time winner at Roland Garros, which has led to talk of the tennis ace being given a wildcard for the 2017 French Open, which starts on May 28. While there have been some people who have been calling for Maria to be given a wildcard to make things a bit more interesting, especially with the absence of Serena Williams, there are a lot of people who feel that this would give the wrong message to drugs cheats.
Before then though, Maria Sharapova makes her return to tennis at the Stuttgart Open this week, with some people claiming that if she can instantly return back to winning ways at the event and take home the trophy, then it will dramatically increase her chances of being handed a wildcard for the French Open 2017, with an official decision set to be made on May 16.
Maria Sharapova will get her return underway today (April 26) taking on the Italian star Roberta Vinci, with the match set to give us a good understanding of just where Maria is with her game. A good run and impressive performances in this event could see Sharapova getting that wildcard and, while we are not condoning drugs cheats, we do think it would be great to see her back.
