Real Housewives on New Jersey star Melissa George has written a new book with her husband Joe Gorga, about the secrets to a perfect marriage. The book has been heavily criticised, with some people claiming that it is full of lazy rhetoric and tired marital life trope, while others even suggest that it promotes marital rape.
These claims come from section written by Joe, which reads, "Men, I know you think your woman isn't the type who wants to be taken. But trust me, she is. Every girl wants to get her hair pulled once in a while. If your wife says 'no,' turn her around, and rip her clothes off. She wants to be dominated."
Following the suggestions that this is clearly promoting marital rape, Melissa took to her Twitter account to say, "I'm so disgusted that a reporter has taken things completely out of context simply for shock value. #SAD," adding, "If you've read my book, you know that I am promoting mutual love, respect, honesty, and loyalty. #TRUTH."
WHile Melissa Gorga was clearly hoping that this would set a few people straight, it has actually just made them question her knowledge of the term "respect" and how to achieve and receive it. We are sure that it was not their intention to promote marital rape but, from reading the excerpts, it certainly does do that. What do you think?
