Marion Cotillard is a risk-taking acting superstar and that is likely part of what makes her so special as an actress. How else can one explain the recent statement made by the two-time Oscar nominee in which she revealed a desire to star in a comedy in one of her next projects (CTV News - January 18)?
Consider the circumstances in which this revelation was made. The French acting beauty had just received not her first but second Best Actress Oscar nomination in seven years for her film "Two Days, One Night" in which she provided a dramatic acting masterpiece under the direction of Belgian brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. In the film she plays a mother of two who is in danger fo losing her job after suffering a nervous breakdown and must convince her colleagues to forgo their annual bonuses to keep her job (Daily Mail - February 9).
In most situations if an actor finds themself receiving Oscar nominations for their performance in a specific genre such as serious drama their agents often will not even consider proposing their client take on a different film genre unless the offer they receive is too financially lucrative to pass up.
However, in this particular situation one of the leading contenders for the Best Actress Academy Award is admitting BEFORE receiving an offer of a comedy role that she wants to venture into this genre which she freely admits is unfamiliar to her.
Maybe it is this bold, inquisitive aspect of her personality that allows her to find the different dimensions of her characters and make them so appealing that viewers cannot take their eyes off of her when she is acting.
Entertainment observers and fans rarely find just 'one' aspect of her acting that they love because she brings so many great characteristics to each part whether it be incredible timing, superior emotional dramatic acting range or her beautiful looks.
Marion Cotillard will be attending the 2015 Academy Awards and part of the reason why she will be there is because she is a risk-taker on screen when she portrays her characters and for those who are willing to take risks there is the potential for big rewards.
The next announced 'risk' for Marion Cotillard will likely be a comedy movie project and already fans and entertainment observers are speculating that she will be great in this genre and that there are likely many filmmakers already vying for the opportunity to direct her in such a role.
