It is hard to believe that The X Factor has lasted as long as it has, when you consider that the first ever winner of the show, way back in 2004, was Steve Brookstein. Not only was Steve getting on a bit when he won the show (he was 36) but he did not exactly have pop star looks.

No disrespect to Steve Brookstein, he did have a good voice, but to make it in the music industry these days, you need to have the full package and Steve certainly did not have that. So, it is no surprise that Steve Brookstein's career did not last, but what has happened to him since?
Following his victory on The X Factor, Steve Brookstein was snapped up by Sony BMG and went on to have a number one single and album. However, Sony BMG dropped Steve just eight months after The X Factor. Steve released a second album but it failed to chart, leaving his career all but dead.

Steve Brookstein is still smiling
Steve Brookstein has continued to tour and perform at some smaller venues and has still not given up on his musical career. In fact, Steve Brookstein is working on his new album, which sees him team up with Clint Williams on bass, Emmanuel Waldron on keys, Julien Brown on drums and Luca Boscagin on guitar. The album is released later in the year.
Could we see the second coming of Steve Brookstein? It is doubtful!
